Join us on Saturday, 7 June, for the first annual "Clean the Peaks Day"
Clean the Peaks Day is a neighbourhood clean-up event that will focus on clearing and reducing fuel around homes and common areas in the Peaks of Grassi.
On this day, FireSmartPeaks will help residents move firewood piles, prune conifer branches within 2m of the ground and haul deadfall and other combustible materials out of yards to curb side collection points where they’ll be chipped and taken away by Alpine Precision Tree Services. Any materials that can’t be chipped will also be removed and disposed of.
This work will be undertaken at no cost to residents. Alpine Precision have very generously donated their chipping services for the day.
Activities will begin at 8.30am and finish at 3.00pm.
What if you're not around on 7 June?
If you're not around on 7 June, you can still sign up and allow FireSmartPeaks to go onto your property and collect deadfall and other combustible materials. Or maybe you've done that work yourself and you just need help disposing of the material. We're happy to do that too. Just use the sign-up form below.
Call for volunteers!
While this work will be carried out at no financial cost to residents, we'll need volunteers to help with the hauling.
Volunteers will be provided with drinks and other refreshments during the day and there will be a free BBQ once the work is done.
We’ll also provide safety glasses, gloves, high-vis vests and tools.
Volunteers will be assigned to teams that will be organized ahead of time. Each team will be led and supervised by one of our six FireSmart “neighbourhood champions”.

Clean the Peaks 2025 - FireSmart in Action
A huge shout out and thanks to the 50 volunteers who spent a hot and sunny 7 June working hard reduce the risk of wildfire in the Peaks of Grassi, including Sarah Elmeligi - Banff-Kananaskis MLA and the G7 Environment Team.
The first annual Clean the Peaks Day was as much about getting to know each other, making connections and building community as it was about FireSmarting the Peaks. We ticked all those boxes.
Sincere appreciation to Alpine Precision Tree Services LTD. who donated their chipping services for the day and Azuro Outdoor Design and Construction Inc. who spent a long day picking up material that couldn’t be chipped. Between them, Alpine Precision and Azuro took more than 12 tons of combustible material to the landfill. That’s 12 tons of potential fuel that’s no longer around homes and the neighbourhood. In addition, our volunteers made 23 trips to the Boulder Crescent Recycling Depot to drop-off branches, bags of pine needles, dead grass, pine cones, and other yard waste.
Thanks to the many residents of the Peaks of Grassi who answered the call to action by clearing deadfall and other combustible materials from their yards, ready for collection on the day. We had more than 80 piles of materials to deal with which was twice the number of households that had signed-up for support. It took a further two weeks to clear the backlog of material but we managed thanks to the additional hard work of volunteers.
Last but not least, thanks also to Beamer's Coffee Bar, Famous Chinese Restaurant, Save-On-Foods Canmore and FireSmart Canada for their valuable support.
